We had a great week in first grade! We love reading and we love furry friends. 🙂
We kicked off the week with more Dr. Seuss by reading, Green Eggs & Ham, and writing about things we don’t like to eat. We also got a chance to decorate our door with furry friends. On Tuesday, we had a wonderful visit with author Stephanie Pearmain, and she read from her book, Animal BFF’s. We even got a signed copy to take home. (yay!)
We also read, Oh the Places you’ll go! and made our own little hot air balloons with answers to the prompt, “When I grow up…”
On Wednesday, we got to read with some furry friends. We had so many sweet pups to choose from (and they were great listeners!). So much fun. We also read, Yertle the Turtle and wrote about what we’d do if we were King or Queen of the classroom.
On Thursday, we read Horton Hears a Who and wrote about our heroes. We also drew portraits of our heroes. These are very sweet–come into our classrooms and take a peek if you get a chance. On Friday, we got to meet author/illustrator, Chris Gall and hear him read some of his stories including, Cat vs. Dog and Dear Fish. If you haven’t seen these books, they are beautifully illustrated and so, so funny. We are so lucky to have heard him read his stories and to meet him.
In math, we are busy working on missing addends, interpreting graphs, and of course addition with regrouping. We are so proud of the progress these kiddos have made and how hard they are working.
Finally, congratulations to our first grader, Sabine Milliken, on her fundraising efforts in the move-a-thon! Yay, Sabine! Thanks for your support of St. Michael’s. 🙂
Next week, it’s all about rainbows and St. Patrick’s Day. Don’t forget about the half-day on Wednesday! We have some fun surprises in store for the kids and are looking forward to another great week!
